Thursday, May 27, 2021, Natural Resources Canada confirmed the launch and details of the Canada Greener Homes Grant initiative.
This is a return rebate cheque based on renovations made between 2021 and 2028 with a prior energy inspection of the property (this is not a tax credit).
Important:
A new window unit can be inserted into the existing frame of an old window, but replacements of only the glass, sash or door without a frame are not eligible.
An amount of $ 125 or $ 250 will be granted per rough opening, up to a maximum of $ 5,000 for the entire renovation project (including windows, heat pumps, house insulation, solar panel, etc.)
Replace windows, sliding glass doors, hinged doors, with or without sidelites or transoms with ENERGY STAR certified models: - U-Factor of 1.22 W/m²K or less OR Energy Rating ≥ 34 - rebate amount of $ 125
Replace windows or sliding glass doors with ENERGY STAR Most Efficient certified models: - U-Factor of 1.05 W/m²K or less OR Energy Rating ≥ 40 - rebate amount of $ 250
This program can be used in conjunction with Provincial, Territorial and Municipal retrofit grant Programs.
Homeowner must keep theENERGY STAR labels on eligible windows and doors until after the post-retrofit evaluation.
Keep copies of all documents until the end of the program March 31, 2028, for audit and verification purposes.
